How Long Does a House Rewire Take? Leeds FAQs
A full rewire of a typical 3-bedroom Leeds house takes around 5-10 working days for the electrical work, split into first fix and second fix, plus plastering and decorating afterwards. Partial rewires and single-circuit upgrades are usually 1-3 days.
Rewires are done in two stages. First fix is the disruptive part: lifting floorboards, chasing walls, running new cables and fitting back boxes. Second fix is fitting accessories, connecting the new consumer unit, then testing, commissioning and certification.
Timescales depend on the size of the property, how many circuits are being installed, access under floors and into lofts, whether the house is occupied, and whether it is a solid-wall or stud-wall construction. You can usually stay in the property during a rewire, but expect rooms to be out of use in sequence and power to be off for parts of each day. Many customers prefer to be out for the busiest first-fix days.

Can I live in my house during a rewire?
Usually yes. We work room by room and restore power each evening where possible, but expect dust, lifted floors and rooms temporarily out of use.
Do I need a full rewire or a partial one?
That depends on the condition of the existing wiring. An EICR or a survey identifies which circuits are serviceable and which need replacing.
Does a rewire include making good and decorating?
Chasing and lifting is part of the work, but plastering and decorating are normally separate. We tell you exactly what is included in the quotation.

How much disruption is there?
